SUPPORT THE EMANCIPATOR ON BU GIVING DAY
Help us keep the spotlight on racial equity. Donate today.
We’re currently seeing social and political forces working feverishly to erase the histories, experiences and advancement of communities of color nationwide. That is only one reason why The Emancipator provides an urgently needed perspective in today’s media landscape.
Housed within Boston University’s Center for Antiracist Research, The Emancipator is an award-winning digital magazine that reimagines the nation’s first abolitionist newspapers for a new day. Our mission, like those who came before us, is to turn public opinion against racism. Our stories expose the history, harms and pervasiveness of racial inequality and discrimination throughout all aspects of life, and explore solutions for its abolition. From health disparities and the wealth gap, to climate inequality and the criminal legal system, we are confronting the biggest racial justice issues of our time.
The Emancipator is more than just a platform. It is a dynamic space where the voices of the movement converge. Through powerful reporting and commentary, evidence-based solutions, and community connections, we play a pivotal role in driving crucial conversations on the state of race and racism in America.
