SUPPORT ASTRONOMY ON BU GIVING DAY
Your gift to the BU Astronomy Department can make a huge difference in the science-based experience of current and future students. For the past 20 years, BU students in our non-majors courses (AS102, AS105, and CC111) and many of our undergrad majors (in AS441) and graduate students (in AS710) have traveled to Flagstaff, Arizona to use the 72-in Perkins telescope for class projects. During this past year, BU acquired full ownership of the Perkins from Lowell Observatory. The renamed “Perkins Telescope Observatory” (PTO) is already enhancing student opportunities for participating in field trips, enabling more and longer research projects, and will nucleate scientific partnerships with other universities. Bringing BU students, be they in our intro-astronomy, majors, or graduate courses, to the PTO to experience hands-on large telescope use will continue to happen if you can help us.
In addition to supporting student trips to the PTO in Flagstaff, AZ and/or NASA Goddard in Maryland, donations will help send students to scientific conferences, update or replace some of the aging rooftop telescopes used for our introductory astronomy and astronomy majors classes, and sponsor our participation in educational and scientific outreach to local schools and museum days.
Your gift to BU makes a huge difference. From financial aid to cutting-edge research, student life to social outreach, donations help BU—and our greater community—thrive.
TOGETHER, WE'RE UNSTOPPABLE
