SUPPORT AFRICAN STUDIES ON BU GIVING DAY

The African Studies Center (ASC) is one of the nation’s oldest leaders in promoting African language and area studies since its founding in 1953, with federal funding as a Title VI National Resource Center.

As a center for excellence for researching, learning, and teaching about Africa, the ASC provides opportunities for students across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences to examine how their work engages Africa through rigorous academic study, to learn African languages, and to participate in diverse programming outside of the classroom.

Celebrate the Center's 70 years of impact by making a gift today. Your generosity will ensure our students can take a step further in enriching their education and careers in African studies by supporting our programs and funding student travel for conferences and research

Among the ASC’s array of opportunities and resources for students on and off campus are:

• The Educational Outreach Program provides workshops and opportunities for K-16 teachers and pre-service educators, as well as work opportunities for students

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships support intensive language study in the US and across Africa in 9 languages, including Amharic, Arabic, Igbo, Mandinka, Swahili, Twi, Wolof, Xhosa, and Zulu

• Our graduate student community organizes an annual Graduate Student Conference in African Studies to bring together fresh scholars from BU and beyond

• The Walter Rodney Seminar Series has showcased established and young scholars from a variety of fields touching on African studies for over 40 years

• Our Publications Program publishes the peer-reviewed International Journal of African Historical Studies and working papers, providing students opportunities to gain experience in publishing
